Ear Roots Tropism is a meditation on botanical and spiritual aspirations. The project consists of a music album, a prose and a series of Ear Root scripture study groups.

Within the last two years, I embarked on a peculiar parallel journey of cultivation—attempting to raise a dodder plant while studying the Buddhist Śūraṅgama Sūtra's chapter on Ear Root Penetration. These experiences gradually grew towards an intertwined investigation regarding the nature of growth and attachment.

In the making of this album, I started from the bodily sensations felt during the process of cultivation: the tingly irritation on my arms upon handling the dodder, the melting of sutra into melody after multiple recitations, the twirling act of tendrils descending on its prey overnight. The tracks include sound extracts from sutra spectrograms, micro-movements of the dodder plants, recordings of my body and sounds from architectural spaces from my lived everyday.
